The textbooks and resources we provide have
proved successful in the home school setting. Although not
specifically intended for home school families, we have used them to
instruct our own special needs children, and families in our consulting
service have used them as well. Most of the products are designed
for students with special needs. Unless noted, the item descriptions are
written by Learning Handicaps Specialist, Sharon Hensley, M.A. Often we are asked if we provide a complete curriculum for a
particular grade level. Since each child with learning
difficulties has a unique combination of strengths and areas of
challenge, we suggest that families select textbooks or resources
appropriate for their child in each subject. Our product
descriptions are designed to help you choose resources that will best
meet your child's needs.
At the head of each of the initial item descriptions, we list the
instructional grade level for that item. Who the curriculum
is appropriate for is listed next. When selecting
curricula, determine
the level that your child is currently working at, regardless of
the grade level of his or her peers, then select a text that will lead
you to the next step. Decide whether or not you want to the
curricula to remediate or compensate for your child's difficulty or
disability. Seek professional assistance when possible to
remediate your child's disabilities. In general, in difficult
subjects teach to your child's strengths. If your child is
a visual learner and math is difficult, then use a text that teaches the
concepts more through visual presentation than oral instruction. If you need more information on the basic steps outlined above, then
resources in the section will help you, especially the Program Planning for the Special Needs
Child Video and Guide listed below.
We wish you the best in your home school efforts!
